Rumors are surfacing about some kind of secret plot to unseat Mariah Carey from the "American Idol" panel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Idol" producers and Fox executives had been working on a plan to replace Carey with former judge Jennifer Lopez mid-way through the season.
Sources say however, that the plan was abandoned when Carey's people got word and responded by threatening legal action. It was supposedly the network's big idea to spice things up and accelerate ratings, which have been on a downward spiral all season.
Producer Nigel Lythgoe tells the "Reporter" that he was "not involved in any conversation" about replacing Mariah with J.Lo, and Fox declined comment.
The network is reportedly still in negotiations with Lopez for the show's finale in May.
